Indeed, it’s an ideal place for low-key picnics, peace-lovers, and photographers who love dramatic cliffs and exclusive sea vistas.

If you want a peaceful coastal escape close to the city but with a more rustic, natural feel, Yarada should be on your Vizag trip itinerary.

Where is Yarada Beach?

Yarada Beach lies roughly 30 km from RK Beach area and 27 km from central Visakhapatnam (railway station) and is easily reachable by road in about 1-1.2 hours, depending on traffic.

The drive itself is part of the charm: superfast highway, glimpses of naval quarters, hilly terrain, and at the end, winding coastal stretches and natural palm plantations give way to the small village area close to the shoreline.

Special Note:

You can reach it by taxi or self-drive via the port road or Chennai-Kolkata highway. A major part of the drive passes through areas under the observation of the Indian Navy, which adds a sense of security to the journey. The final stretch, however, leads into the little village by the beach where the Navy’s jurisdiction ends and the local settlement begins. It’s a smooth drive with scenic glimpses of the sea and hills, but do watch for curves, carry your ID card (Aadhar/Passport/driving license), and return before dark.

If you prefer public transport, local buses run along the route (via Scindia / Malkapuram), though timing and frequency may be less convenient for early-morning or sunset visits.

How to reach Yarada Beach

By taxi/cab: The fastest and most comfortable option. A taxi from central Vizag typically takes ~60–80 minutes, if you don’t stop at the dolphin nose viewpoint.

By local bus: There are no direct bus to reach Yarada, but you can take a two-bus route. For the first part of the journey, take any of the frequent city buses from Vizag to Scindia Junction — routes like 99 or those in the 400 series operate every 7–8 minutes, so you won’t have to wait long. You can get these buses from the RTC complex or Visakhapatnam Railway Station. From Scindia Junction, board bus number 16, which travels directly to Yarada Beach. This second leg runs less often, with one bus approximately every 30 to 40 minutes, so plan your timing accordingly.

Self-drive / bike: Popular with locals and younger travelers; parking is limited near the beach so arrive early on weekends or holidays. If you are a passionate road-tripper from other state, please note, the coastal road offers scenic views — drive carefully and watch for local traffic and occasional military checkpoints.

Yarada’s appeal is its unhurried atmosphere. Where other beaches in Vizag bustle with vendors, shacks and an enormous tourist crowd, Yarada preserves a quieter, more natural character. It’s ideal for early-morning walks, low-key picnics, and photography that plays with cliffs, busy waves, and wide-open skies.

Best things to do at Yarada Beach

When you arrive, consider any the following activities to enjoy the place completely:

Take an early morning stroll along the golden sand, watching how light touches the hills and sea. However, if you are staying at Vizag, it’s almost impossible to reach there during sunrise. So, you can skip it. The nearest hotels (JB STAY INN and Hotel SM PARADISE) lie approximately 12 km away from Yarada Beach, which is 30 30-minute drive from the beach. You can stay there for a night to enjoy the complete essence of Yarada Beach.

If you are on a full-day trip, spread a blanket under the palm trees, enjoy a simple picnic, and soak in the calm. Because eateries are limited, you might want to carry your own snacks and bottled water.

Explore the rock formations or walk toward the edges of the bay. The hills and sea junction offer lovely vantage points.

Photograph the scene — whether it’s the wild waves meeting the shore, the hillside silhouette, or the tiny local village by the beach.

You can combine your beach visit with a short drive to the nearby headland, Dolphin’s Nose, for sweeping views over the coastline and port — most Vizag tour operators takes you to this point (probably to waste your time). However, on my very first trip, I personally felt visiting Dolphin’s Nose View Point was nothing but a waste of time, compared to the beauty of Yarada Beach.

• Sagarnagar Beach: Less popular, it’s kind of a local lovers’ point.
• Araku, Borracaves, and Lambasingi: Enjoy a different ambience away from sea beaches, exploring ancient cave, coffee and spice plantations, bamboo bridge, amazing viewpoints, a number of beautiful waterfalls (Katiki Waterfalls, Chaparai Water Cascade, Kothapalli Falls, and more), and Lambasingi jeep trek over the clouds.

Mid-October to March is the sweet spot for visiting Yarada Beach. Winters bring comfortable temperatures, clearer skies and calmer seas — ideal for photography, sightseeing, and relaxed beach time.

Avoid the peak summer months (March to May) when humidity soars and the sea stays strong. The monsoon season (June to September) brings heavy rain, rough seas and fewer visiting comforts.

If you plan a weekend visit during peak season (December–January), go early in the morning to secure parking and enjoy the beach before crowds arrive.

• Arrive early if you’re going on a weekend or holiday — parking near the beach can fill up.
• Carry drinking, water, snacks, sunscreen and a hat — the beach offers limited infrastructure.

• Avoid sea bathing in even in closest deep or swimming; currents may be unpredictable and lifeguards aren’t guaranteed.
• Respect local signage: large parts of the approach road have Navy oversight, so restricted areas should be avoided.
• Stay a little longer after sunset if you can — the transition of light over the hills and sea is one of the most peaceful moments at Yarada.
