A few days back, just before the commencement of Operation Sindoor, we had recommended a Ladakh trip as an alternative to Kashmir. Ladakh is easily accessible via Srinagar Airport or Jammu Railway Station, making it a viable option without needing to cancel existing flight or train bookings.
However, the situation changed rapidly once Operation Sindoor was initiated. In the wake of the ongoing conflict, Ladakh is no longer considered safe for tourists. Additionally, both Srinagar and Leh airports have been temporarily shut down until 15 May 2025 (the tenure may extend in future).
Latest Update: Ceasefire and Fresh Violations
On 10 May 2025 at 5:00 PM, India and Pakistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire, while India put certain conditions before the agreement. However, this doesn’t mean that tourism in Jammu & Kashmir will resume soon. Unfortunately, Pakistan’s track record of violating agreements was again proven when they breached the ceasefire just three hours later.
As per the latest reports, Pakistan violated the ceasefire in 11 locations across Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat, and Rajasthan starting at around 8:00 PM on 10 May. Pakistani drones were spotted over nine Indian cities, all of which were neutralized by the S-400 defense system. It is highly likely that such incursions may continue. By 10:00 PM, full blackouts were enforced in Srinagar, Jammu, Kargil, Barmer, Pathankot, and several other cities.
Travel Advisory: Areas to Avoid in May 2025

For your safety, it is strongly advised to avoid travel to any North or West Indian states that share the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan, including:
- Jammu & Kashmir (J&K)
- Ladakh (Union Territory)
- Punjab
- Rajasthan
- Gujarat
Additionally, as a precaution, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand should also be avoided, even though they don’t directly share borders with Pakistan.
Avoid High-Risk Areas:
We also recommend avoiding all religious places or locations with large public gatherings.
It is suspected that sleeper cells may still be active in various parts of the country. High-profile cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and other densely populated tourist destinations should be avoided for leisure travel, as these places are often targeted during such tensions.
Where to Travel Now: Safe and Cool Summer Destinations
Due to the extreme summer heat, coastal beach destinations are not ideal either, since you’d be confined indoors until evening.
However, hill stations remain the best option for summer travel. While most hill destinations in North and Northwest India are currently unsafe or closed, the following regions are still viable:
- North-East India: Explore the peaceful and scenic beauty of states like Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.
- South India: Consider serene hill destinations like Munnar, Ooty, Kodaikanal, and Coonoor.
Choose wisely, stay informed, and prioritize safety over travel plans. Preferably you should travel across offbeat locations avoiding popular and over-crowded tourist destinaations.
Let’s first rxplore the Northeast India, as China is still not active directly, although they somehow supported Pakistan diplomatically today.
