Have you listened to the latest news about Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ tourism?
There is bad news for those who had a tour plan to Andaman and Nicobar Islands between 16th Mach to 26th March 2020. Andaman and Nicobar Administration announced a close door for all kinds of tourism up to 26th March 2020, and to be noted the days may increase if the situation is not under control.
However, it is bad news for the local tour operators and hotel owners, because they are going to face a huge loss in these days.
But on the other hand, it’s a piece of good news for the local people that includes 6 types of tribal communities who are the permanent residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for a long time, and I must say it’s a great step by the Andaman Administration.
The Andaman Islands are still untouched by the Coronavirus
Andaman Islands are still remained untouched by deadly Coronavirus and COVID-19, while countries like China, Spain, Italy, Iran, France, Canada, and USA are suffering greatly.
The mainland of India also get affected by Coronavirus, but it is still at a primary stage, and also it is found that all the COVID-19 patient in India were caught in the airport when they were entering the nation after traveling to a foreign country.
So, it is very clear that sources of Coronavirus in India are only foreign land.
Andaman and Nicobar Island is also a very popular Indian destination for the Indian as well as foreign travelers. However, being isolated from the mainland, Coronavirus is still unable to attack the Andaman Islands. In fact, it is much easier to keep an island away from Coronavirus if the correct decision taken at the right time, as did by the Andaman administration.
Why tourism suspension is the right decision by Andaman Administration?
At this moment Andaman Islands’ Administration is not ready to invite Coronavirus into this beautiful island.
These heavenly Islands are the home for 6 tribes who and getting extinct fast.
- Great Andamanese
- Onge
- Jarawa
- Sentinelese
- Shompen
- Nicobarese
And local Tribal Welfare Department personals are involved in taking care of them. If Coronavirus somehow affects the Islands as well as the localities, there are high chances that tribal communities will get affected, and it is difficult to admit them to hospitals made by modern people. Except Jarawas, all other tribal communities hate modern people. So the entrance of Coronavirus in Andaman and Nicobar Islands may finish those tribes totally.
Sentinelese are totally isolated tribes, so they may not be affected, but we must think of all other tribal communities.
In addition, being isolated from the mainland, medical facilities are not up to the mark in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. So Coronavirus attacks their all the people including the tribes will fell into great problem.
So, we must welcome the Andaman Islands administration’s tourism banning decision at this moment, irrespective of all other facts.
What are the activities are suspended in Andaman & Nicobar Islands up to 26 March 2020?
All types of tourism activities will remain close up to March 26, 2020; however, the suspension time may be increased depending on the situation.
The list includes,
- Jetties
- Beaches
- Eco-tourism sites
- Boats
- Other water sports activities
The major tourist sites such as Cellular Jail (Light & Sound Shows), Havelock Island, Neil Islands, Baratang all will remain closed up to 26th March, 2020.
Life is also going to be a little difficult for the local people because all modes of transport including ships, private vessels, government buses, and private buses will be operating at only 50 percent capacity to avoid close contact with the passengers.
Conclusive remarks
It’s a peak season in Andaman and obviously it’s sad news for the tourists who already planned for a trip to Andaman Island this March, but anyway we have to accept the reality.
If a single person gets infected by deadly Coronavirus, this may be a critical situation, and we may miss the culture of the Andaman Islands forever. So why not we sacrifice for now to keep the place beautiful forever.
Let’s all stay uninfected this time.
